Physical aspects of Communio
We will be located in Anthon, Iowa, which is approximately 30 miles east of Sioux City. Anthon is along the scenic Little Sioux River Valley. We are very near the Loess Hills, a beautiful location. The Little Sioux River runs right through our farm, just a few minutes north of Anthon. On the farm we see ducks, geese, pheasants, deer, beaver, blue herons and the usual small birds and animals. There are three beaver ponds on the farm, as well as clear, cool, drinkable spring water, and a panoramic view of the River Valley. There is a converted grain bin on the farm that we use for outings. The Little Sioux County Park, just a few minutes north of the farm, is a nicely landscaped 532 acre park that is well-maintained and a 10 acre lake for swimming and fishing. It also has camp grounds, some with hook-ups and cabins for rent and a nice pavilion for larger gatherings. (google: Little Sioux County Park)
In Anthon, we have been given a one year option-to-lease on a beautiful old brick school building and ranch-style house located feet away from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. We intend to begin working on the school as soon as we obtain funds. The school is a brick structure that was built in 1905. There are no cracks on the outside of the building and no signs of settling. There is very little water damage from the roof. Communio paid to have a new roof that was installed this summer. There was a fire in the building in approximately 1955, after which the building was remolded. The wiring looks good and structurally the building is sound. The furnace is out of order and the plumbing is outdated. The windows are the original large, double hung. There are aluminum storms on all of the windows. We do not have plans, spec’s or estimates for the remodeling yet, but are working on that now. We have extensive experience in energy efficient building and remodeling, including passive solar.
Both the house and church are in very good condition.
